This program includes comprehensive
diagnostic, psychiatric, psychological and social services for the
children, semi-private and private living quarters for 11 girls and 23
boys ages 6 to 16, administrative offices, interviewing, counseling and
therapeutic rooms, operational, recreational and educational facilities.
The building is located on the same site as the existing facility built
in 1924. the site is relatively flat with a row of mature trees along
the south property line. A low building profile is maintained to keep in
scale with the surrounding neighborhood and to provide a residential
fabric focusing on a central court. The court is surrounded by glass
providing vistas into and through the building encouraging the children
to openly interact. The residential area is broken into semi-cottage
family units bisected by glazed day rooms for group meetings and low key
recreational activities.
