The program was
to provide housing for elderly persons of low and moderate income under
the Federal Housing Administration Mortgage Insurance Program. The
solution was to create a community within a community for the
stimulation and continued participation of the residents, their families
and friends. The structure has open space, natural light, and accented
paint, carpet, drapes,
floor tile, and wood. Availability and safety were incorporated
within the guidelines as specified by the Department of Housing and
Urban Development, with a concrete structure. Privacy within the living
units, with visual and physical open spaces, commercial and medical
facilities, religious and recreational areas are within themselves an
answer to the community requirements of this structure located within a
single family, and small multi-family adjacent areas. The modular
construction was both vertical and horizontal for all material and
systems.
