This
residence consist of six other family structures, each constructed at
different times to satisfy the requirements of various generations of
the same family, children, grandchildren, friends and relatives within
one space. The design utilizes the site in such a way as to give views
in two directions toward the lake. The upper level and the lakeside of
the lower level provided complete openness. The upper level is designed
to provide a one bedroom apartment within the complete living area or an
open space for entertainment without distributing the privacy of the
lower level. For those few times a year, the lower level will provide
shelter for "Dorothy and Toto." The materials inside as well
as outside, are brought into balance with warm-tone board formed
concrete, rough saw cedar siding and bronze glass, natural light,
controlled by orientation or a system of shed forms, warmed by interior
cedar and fir columns, beams and decking.
